Tsugaru is an apple cultivated by the Aomori Prefecture Apple Research Station, and is a hybrid variety with "Golden Delicious" as the mother and "Koume" as the father. It was bred in 1930 (Showa 5), and about 40 years later, its good quality was recognized, and it was named Tsugaru in 1975 (Showa 50). It is the second most popular variety in Japan in terms of harvest volume after "Fuji".
It is an early variety that can be harvested from around August, weighing about 300g. The flesh is slightly firm and contains a lot of juice, and you can enjoy a crunchy texture. The pollen parent is Koume, which has a strong sour taste, but Tsugaru's sourness is not too strong, and it has a good balance with sweetness and flavor. It is sometimes written in kanji as "Tsugaru".
